Default Claiming UK Tax Back

We are hoping to emigrate to Adelaide at end of July.

Would we be eligible for a tax refund in the UK.
Is it just a case of calling the tax office or is there a from.
Do we need to do it before we go or could we do it from Australia.

Cheers

You need to fill out form P85 and send it to your tax office. You can either ring up and get one sent to you or download it from somewhere on the HMRC website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk

Note that as well as tax you should also consider your NIC's and whether you continue to make voluntary contributions or not. Each person's case will depend on their own circumstances so a good hunt round the aforementioned website is recommended.

Not entirely sure why my reply has appeared multiple times but suffice to say I only pressed 'post quick reply' once!

Do you know if there are any tax back arrangements for those who are self employed.

I believe form P85 covers both employees and the self-employed.
I found ringing my local tax office (ie the one who send you all the coding notices) to be quite a useful exercise, once I finally got talking to someone who knew what they were doing.
Failing that I think there's a search function on the HMRC website that helps you identify your nearest tax office.

P85 form is correct , according to my local tax office just fill that form in with a copy of your p45 and they "should" do all the rest.

But think we all know the uk tax offices aren't the best when it comes to giving money BACK!

Hi do you mind if i ask what made you pick Adelaide, we are also thinking of locating to Adelaide but it is a minefield as where to settle,a nice suburb for the kids etc would be ideal. We love Brisbane although word is that Adelaide is cheaper for houses etc, is this true? can you recommend any suburbs that are appealing to families.
