Default Claiming the rain-water tank rebate in QLD

Hi.

Does anyone know (or have experience of) claiming for a rain-water tank purchase and installation in a new-build construction?

When can you claim for it and is there a Brisbane council rebate as well as a Queensland government rebate and how much are they (we are having a 5000 ltr tank installed)?

Cheers?

Hi,

I think there are both state and council rebates.

Certainly there are council ones because BCC changed their rules on 1st July to state that you would only get the rebate if the tank was plumbed into your domestic system....rather than just being used to fill a pool or keep your garden alive. Apparently since then they have received one rebate application! As opposed to 100s per week before.

At least now it might be easier for you to source a tank! Dont bank on filling it any time soon though.....Brisbane managed an impressive 4mm for the whole month of July!

Here's the form for the state government rebate:
http://www.nrw.qld.gov.au/water/save...ation_pack.pdf
Maximum is $1000 from the state.

And for Brisbane:
http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:B...341:pc=PC_1460
http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/BCC:B...341:pc=PC_2670

I'm just about to fill in the form for the state government rebate but as we live in the Redland Shire, we don't get any rebate from our council.

Cheers.

Aren't you still on level 2 in Redland Shire though?

Thanks.

Hopefully it will be two requests soon?

Odd though as all new-builds are obliged to now fit a 5000 ltr water tank (if a detached dwelling) and have it plumbed into the toilets and washing machine by law. I guess the people building aren't in a position to claim yet as their builds are probably still ongoing?

On new homes water tanks became a mandatory requirement in january 2007, so if at the time of your building application water tanks were already the law, then usually no rebate is applicable as the new home had to have one by law anyway.

The best thing is to talk to your particular council and see what regs were in on the dates you lodged the BA and see if you can apply or not.

Is that under state and local council legislation? i.e. we are not entitled to a penny in rebates?

I've just phoned the Queensland government helpline for rebates and they confirmed that the mandatory aspect of the water-tank scheme prevents us from claiming a penny.

What a f*****g pain in the arse and our builder lied outright to us about our eligibility to claim the rebate. Consequently, we were forced to spend an extra 7.5k on our house because of the government’s f*****g ineptitude. Great!!

Jesus effing christ....Some times this place really gets me down.

Sounds like classic Qld!

Sh!t - we're going to run out of water lets encourage people to harvest their own. Oh, hold on a minute....this is costing us $'s......right let's remove all incentives for people to harvest their own water.

Job done...Wivenhoe Dam will be empty before ya know it!

Sorry, Basically in january water tanks in qld were no longer a choice, you have to have one, yep it adds to the building costs, just like the rule no electric hot water systems, must be gas or solar now. Rules go on and on, keeping up with legistlation here is a career in itself, and it all adds to the cost of new homes.

Think there will be some interesting rules coming up on pools councils are not exactly going to be encouraging people to have one. Already pool sales have dropped 30%. Roll on summer lets hope this year it brings the traditional wet summers back.

If you build in a Stockland estate, Stockland provide a water tank FOC.

Sounds good but would probably just be factored into the land price anyway.

We rely on tanks for all our water so you'd think we couldn't claim for one the stupid thin is we can. We already have 2 X 5400 gallon tanks if we buy another the same size the QLD govt allow us to claim the full $1000 buck rebate.
My guess is that if you decide to buy a second tank you would also then qualify for the rebate.

I'm fuming!

It's completely unfair for those of us who have been "forced" to install water tanks since the beginning of this year, without any type of subsidy, when other people are given the choice and then get a substantial subsidy back into their pockets for doing so.

I'm voting for Mickey Mouse as Prime Minister when I get my citizenship. At least you know what you'd be getting with him...

Grrrrr.........
