Default Claiming Back Tax

I'm in Oz on a working holiday visa at the moment, in March next year i'll start my proper job and go onto a 457 visa. Will I be able to claim back any tax I've paid while on my working holiday visa? I won't be leaving the country so not sure If I can or not

Cheers

It's a backpacker's myth that you "claim tax back" when on a Working Holiday Visa.

Whether you are on a WHV, a 457 visa, a permanent residency visa, or an Australian citizen: You'll do your tax return after 30 June and if you paid too much tax you'll get it back.

Generally you need to work out if you are resident for tax purposes or not. These links should help you - but I would ring the ATO and ask. They are really helpful

The OP already said he is on a WHV and will go on to a 457 visa in March - that means he is resident for tax purposes (in simple terms: residents pay less tax than non-residents).
