Default Claiming back Super after leaving Oz

I went through the normal channel after returning from my WHV this year, applying to claim back my Superannuation on the ATO tax site.
Now I've heard back from one of the Super companies (I used two while I was there) - they've sent me a letter and form which I have to fill in with certified copies of my passport and proof of address.
Is this normal?
I haven't yet heard from the other company and I applied six weeks ago.
I assumed filling everything online would be the end of it and I would then receive my money. All seems to have been a complete waste of time if I then have to fill in a load more forms and get certified copies of everything.!
Has anyone else had this experience?
Thanks
Dianne
