Default Claim Tax Refund with no TFN

My 15 year old son has had a casual weekend job for quite a few months now and because he had no TFN (tax file number) when he started, he's had tax deducted at 40 odd per cent.

He's now (recently) got his TFN and would like to claim back the tax he's had deducted.

He's got all his payslips which provide the name of his employer.

How does he go about claiming back the tax?

Is he only allowed to claim tax deducted in tax year 2007/2008 or would be able to claim tax deducted in this tax year 2008/2009 also?

Thanks

Put a tax return in for 2007/2008 year

Await July next year (2009) to file 2008/2009 year or
contact the ATO about getting a special code to account for the additional deduction already made (ie to reduce remaining deductions so smooth out over the year). Unless your desperate for the cash or the amount is significant ie over $5k best await tax return time.

Thanks for the info

Is this something I can do online or would I need to lodge a paper return?

To do an online return you must first have submitted a paper return (to authenticate who you are, you need to quote a reference from previous paper return)

Should be quite easy in paper format - just call ATO and they will send the forms out.
