Civil engineering jobs Perth
Hi all,
After much deliberation my family and i have decided to try and move to Perth, if i can find an appropriate job. I am a Agent/Snr Civil engineer in Wales but i belive its classified as Snr Engineer/Project Manager in Australia.
My Back ground is in Civil construction/Water i.e. RC Structures, Pipe lines, Roads, Earth works, Deep drainage.
Would be looking to get a 457 visa initially, have started process for perm visa.
Have not got preference on work with regards to location e.g. FIFO
Would anyone have any details that i could forward my CV for possible positions of work.
Thanking you in advance

Hi, your best bet is looking on seek.com.au for positions. Will you need to do any re-training or re-certifying to get a job in aus?, many careers have different standards and requirements to the uk. Have you looked into these. Have you done much research on perth, it is very different from the rest of australia, theres some great posts on these forums about it if you use the search function at the top. Some people love it some hate it but they will all mostly agree there is less work in perth than elsewhere in the country.

Re: Civil engineering jobs Perth
Im job hunting at the moment, different skills though, im an accountant.
I wish I was a civil engineer/project manager. There seems to be endless jobs looking for those skills. And some bloody good money also.
As an accountant, what I am hearing is my only downfall is your lack of Aussie experience, even though accounts are the same all over the western world. Mining experience is a big advantage here also.
But frankly, in Perth, I cant see you having a problem getting a good job. Its possible you may have to take a small step down, just to get the Aussie experience on your cv. Dont take my advice though, as its not my industry.
Try this place http://www.macmahon.com.au/ their HR might be eager for a chat.
As mentioned previously, I would highly recommend trolling through seek.com.au and calling some of the recruitment agents(numbers on bottom of job advert) to ask them about your cv, and if it appeals.
Im kicking myself I didnt go into engineering when I was deciding my career as an 17 year old lad. Would be significantly more interesting that accounting. Much better money also in Perth.

Re: Civil engineering jobs Perth
A friend of mine works for a Civil Engineering firm here in Perth. According to him they cannot find engineers for love nor money - South Africa has been emptied so they are looking further overseas. His mob seem to mainly work on Earthworks, bridges, roads etc.
I'll echo the comments about "stepping down" - that seems to be norm here but it only lasts a very short time.

Try contacting the following companies. Some of them have UK offices, so if you can get in there you could maybe even do an internal transfer.
SKM
WorleyParsons
Aker Solutions
Calibre
AGC
Civmec
Laing O'Rourke

I have now registered with some of the Agencies, fingers crossed
Thanks

I have found UK experience is embraced and London experience is particularly well regarded. Still if you find the job boring and it doesn't suit you, it is never too late for a change.

Re: Civil engineering jobs Perth
I've found it depends on the environment - if the company has loads of expats already [Brit, South African, Indian etc] then no-one cares about "Australian Experience". If not then it seems to lift it's ugly head [I have still to work out how Australian experience differs from UK etc. though].

White card is a half hour online common sense test for about $40. Easy. As well as Macmahons try www.johnholland.com.au - they're always after engineers of different kinds.

Re: Civil engineering jobs Perth
being an Engineer you should have no problems getting a job we bring in engineers all the time on 457s.
have a look at places like this
http://careers.newcrest.com.au/jobSearch.asp
http://www.xstrata.com/careers/
http://www.clough.com.au/clough-care...html?task=view
watch what you go for on Seek it is not always what it seems
if you are looking for a mine job first aid and some form of safety course always looks good

Rubbish to lack of Australian experience being a problem for accountants, because you are absolutely correct, accounting is extremely similar all over the world.
I have found UK experience is embraced and London experience is particularly well regarded. Still if you find the job boring and it doesn't suit you, it is never too late for a change.

Agreed, but local recruitment agents dont see it that way.
Im aiming for something like Commercial Manager, which needs accounting background(as opposed to some that require engineering background), so its not all number crunching.
Im not fond of number crunching and I have done 7 years as a trainee auditor with a Big 4 and dont want to go back, but I do like business(was an FC for 4 years back home, and loved the business side), so its not worth a career change, just a morphing of skills. But im willing to take a step down for something like management accountant just to get that valued local experience on my cv, but to get even that lower position requires local experience it seems.

Re: Civil engineering jobs Perth
Hey I am a Civil Engineer with 3 years experience and I am having a lot of troubles to find a job, I have been constantly searching for one during the last 5 months with no success, I have done everything I can come up with (recruitment, go to companies to give them my CV, ...) and I am really desperate, do you have an idea on what should I do next??
