If you get citizenship it will cost you, $480 for all of you to apply for citizenship (that's 2 adult applications as the kids will go on yours) then you'd have to pay for the kids passports and also an RRV at $120 each. So if kids UK passorts are say $150 each that would bring the total to $1530
OMG Wendy! I was just coming around to the idea then you flashed your figures up!

You may wish to peruse sections 34 to 36 of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.

Bottom line is that offences committed after you become a citizen don't lead to deportation.

Not the way I read it, although he may wish to clarify.

I'm not sure why but I paid these amounts for our passports and then we got a rebate of $7 per adult and $3.50 per child a few months later.

One point for the OP on consular services. As you say, you are covered by UK consular services. However if you get into trouble in a 3rd country would you rather be repatriated to the UK or Aus?

Also if you agree with the Green Party, why not help them out and give them your vote?

I have more faith with the Australian government acting for people outside Australia in an emergency requiring consular assistance than the UK.

And even if you don't want to vote for political reasons, or lack thereof, then you can turn up, get your name ticked off and not vote at all.

The law could change in relation to PR's at any time and I would frankly want to ensure my future here.

Personally I can't see any good reason to not apply for citizenship unless somebody has no intention at all of remaining in Australia.

As far as I am aware you do not need passports for internal domestic flights, we took ours on a trip from Sydney to Cairns and never got asked for them.

We've always been asked to show 'photo' ID for our boys, the only form of which we have are their passports - they checked them properly too!
