Citizenship: May be repet but no harm in asking again!
Guys,
I have been an Australia from Apr 2005 now and planning a trip back home. I have a confusion, where ever I refered it said 2 rules:
- I should have completed 2 years in Australia in last 5 yrs.
- When I apply for Citizenship I should be in Australia for 12 months (contineous) before I apply for residency.
But what I read here is:
To satisfy this requirement you must have been present in Australia as a permanent resident for periods totalling at least:
* 2 years out of the last 5 years, including at least 12 months in the last 2 years immediately prior to the date of lodgement.
Please note that any time you spent in Australia before you were granted permanent residence status, does not count as permanent residence.
Does this mean that I can go to home land stay for a while (few months) and come back and then apply for citizenship Jul/Aug 2007, and that would be accepted....? since I have completed 12+ months in Austrlia in last 2 years even though i had a break of few months?
Can someone clarify this plz... JAJ..
Cheers,
BartS

Your citizenship application cannot normally be approved while you're outside Australia.
