Default Citizenship Ceremony

I have just received a letter informing me that my ceremony will be on the 25th October at 1pm at the Gold Coast Arts Centre.

Just wondered if any one else is getting their citizenship on the same day.

Also.... I have realised that my UK passport will need renewing soon. I know I can get an Australian one but I do want to keep my UK one up to date.

Can you tell me how I get this done.

Many thanks

A very happy Sharon

Congrats sharon - thats pretty quick - we were eligible on 4th september, applied 5th september, had our interviews on 8th September and were told its up to 90 days before we get a letter and our ceremony will probably be December or more likely January! :scared: Was hoping it would be before the new year so I could apply for HECS...oh well!!!

In Vic there is a long wait. We were eligible last October, finally had our interviews in Jan (DIMIA closes for whole of Dec or so it seems) and after much badgering had our ceremonies in May....so rather more than your quoted 90 days for us.

Still I know other councils work a lot more efficiently than our one....maybe because we are in Steve Brack's ward!

HECS: Higher Education Contribution Scheme

I am at uni here and I'm paying full fees upfront at the moment, as I don't have citizenship. When I have it, then I'll be able to stick my fees on the government slate and pay them back when I graduate.

If it's January you will probably do it on Australia Day - that would be cool
