Just take the letter you received with you to the ceremony, we weren't asked for any ID, we just showed up and they ticked us off their list. Our ceremony was on Australia Day too, it was great! You can't apply for a passport until you have your citizenship certifcate, which you will be given on the day, as you need to put the number on your passport application form. Go to the post office for passport forms, and get them to do your photo too. You need to have this signed on the back by someone who has known you for two years (I think), declaring that this is a true likeness, blah blah. Then take completed forms and signed photos back to post office. You will have to go to the main post office in your town/city for this service.

Yes, I did as well, and also not all small ones do it, it's usually the bigger post offices..... not that it tells you this anywhere on the form!!!
