Chrimbo day on the beach: Sydney north shores
Will be our 1st chrimbo in Oz Not sure if we (plus friends) should go to the beach (if nothing else but for the novelty factor) or stay at home for BBQ.
If beach, any recommendations for beach on the north shores that will be suitable for toddler & baby??
Will we be able to park within 10km of the beach? find more than 1sqm of beach not cover by people? If you have been there, done that would you do it again?
thanks
walaj

Hi walaj
We went to the beach last year - Mona Vale, so easy enough for you. The loos are quite pleasant (as public conveniences go) and plenty of space if you need to change little ones under cover etc. Plenty of parking though you will have navigate about 20 steps to get down to the beach though they are fairly family friendly. If you aim for the left hand side of the beach you have easy access to rocks for exploring and rock pools for swimming. Probably the easiest beach access wise with little ones is Whale Beach as you park on the same level as the sand.
Have a nice day!

Blimey......so did we!!!! Didn't see you there!!!!!!
We had no problems parking right next to the beach at around 11am. There is a swimming pool area which is great for the little ones if they don't fancy the waves and as Binbird says, there are rocky areas the kids can explore.
Would recomend taking one of those beach tent thingys so you get some shade.
Have a good one
Love

My vote would be for Mona Vale as well.
Though Christmas 2004 was a scream there it was only my family my sisters family and the lifeguard at one point cause that year was crap weather very cold indeed and we all sat on the boogie boards with towels round us.
Previous years there it has always been easy to park and plenty of room on the beach but it can be spot the british!!! Us included of course, with all our gear.
If hot, this year I believe we will possibly go there for a swim just drive over in swimmers and towels in the morning. I only go in the sea once a year and try to make it christmas so the kids can have a laugh.
Have fun

alternatives to consider would be the inland beaches of Pittwater such as Clareville or Palm Beach where there's no waves and fairly shallow water, very kid friendly. parking is more an issue at Clareville depending on what time you get there
we'll probably be at our local Whaley
easy access, some shade, kids playground, pool, rocks, surf, plenty of space... but don't tell everyone cos the parking is limited

thanks for all the replies. We have been to some of the beaches mentioned, but looking like Mona Vale is favourite (and better located for us, than for instances, Balmoral).
Might have to try it out tomorrow if the forcasted showers don't happen all day - the little person in the avatar turns 2 tomorrow
