By the time we reach 35 million, there won't be an Aussie accent that we know now.

Spalen, I thought some of the fundamentals of the current surge in Melbourne was partly Chinese money.

Or speak the new American-Australia that youngsters seem to be developing these days! I don't seem to be able to understand American's these days as they mangle the English language but that's another discussion!
Going back to foreign investment - years before we got our visa we looked at buying a property over here for investment (wish we had of done now!) and at that time we were only allowed to buy new and an apartment block which had been approved by the board for a percentage of foreign investment. If we wanted to sell it then we had to sell to an Aussie.
Last year a mate was over and was quite keen to buy so we looked into it and another way was to buy a derelict house and renno it or knock it down and rebuild - so basically you had to be adding to the housing stock here.
As I understand it down here in Mellie a lot of the Chinese are buying up and then letting their kids stay there whilst at uni.

The OP seems to have been given a bit of a kicking for not much more than quoting the news headline. No wonder people are loath to say anything at all that might have even the slightest racial connotation to it.
I hope to God that Australia doesn't follow the UK's example of over the top PC on everything. It will be the worse for it if it does.

to quote an old chinese proverb..."A rat who gnaws at a cat's tail invites destruction".
All this Chinese money is keeping the country afloat.

If people really believe China will invade unless we have an army they need to go live in a special place where the meals are provided ready-mushed.

There are certain American-Australian traits that are annoying. The sort of Valley Girl dialect which dominates with some people. Only ever hear it on public transport. Use of 'like' incessantly.

If you think it was "crap sensationalist journalism" then I suggest you get right on to ABC and the Federal Government with your complaints because they seem to be repeating the same story.

China isnt a brutal dictatorship, (well not so much as it was anyhoo ) there are tremendous freedoms in many places. Yeah a few activists go missing each year but its not like they dont get warned, they are breaking the law of their country and they get warned and then they go to jail for long periods with hard labour. I have a lot of respect for china Ive worked there on and off a lot over the past 5yrs. Beijing, Shanghai are tremendously cosmopolitan cities and yes the rubbishier places like the rural areas are poverty stricken but thats no different to india or any other major country going through a rapid urbanisation and an industrial revolution.
You're taking the piss surely? You be sure to let me know just as soon as those Chinese folks get to start voting for an opposition party. Then we might start believing such the rest of the bollocks you posted.

Well they invaded Tibet did'nt they and would almost certainly have invaded Taiwan by now if America was'nt protecting it. They don't mind machine gunning down a few thousand of their own unarmed students then why would they care about attacking other countries and other peoples.
