Chinese (LOTE)
Dear all,
We are planning to move to Melbourne next year and we would apprecitae if anyone could help us with regards to the languages offered in schools.
My daughter will start her primary education next year and as she is exposed to Chinese (as second language), I would like to know if chinese is offered in schools in Melbourne?
Most of the schools searches showed LOTE offered as
French/Italian/German/Japanese and could not find any offering chinese.
Appreciate your advise and guidance in this matter.
Thanks in advance
Ashwin

Loads of asian languages are available and kids can study them up to Year 12 and be examined in them at the HSC (Year 12) even though they're not taught in their normal school. Chinese/Australian cultural organizations should be able to provide info on these classes.

Re: Chinese (LOTE)
thanks
We are happy to hear some positive suggestion and appreciated all of you commented in sofar.
I was wondering how would I contact or any web site of Chiense /Australian cultural organizations, so I can obtain more details.
I understand, as a second languge Chinese can be taken on Staurday classes (private) so can avoid other languages (french / german / italian ) in the school.
Regards
Ashwin

But they were the only ones that came up for our search on Google.

Thanks for the congrats. We've been keeping it quiet but Mystic Bordy predicted it back in January! BB's due April 2 but can easily be born an April fool.

Bobcat man has to level some ground so hubby can have his precious shed and I can have the laundry and spare room back Big bolders need moving to build a retaining wall - usual rubbish. Unfortunately bobcat man (name of bob, with a dog called Lily) is not someone I would like to see in next to nothing, dog's cute though . Anyway now cannot get to us until Wed next week but "no worries"!
Anyway, back to the job in hand, I have found this but don't know if the schools have continued with it and to be honest none of them mentioned are anywhere close to you! One that's not on the list is a school up at Ashgrove that do Chinese, so that's a no no.

www.mansfielshs.qld.edu.au This school does French and from what I can see, is the only one around Brisbane. Couple down here and one up at Hervey Bay
Can't find you any Latin at all. The Brisbane School of Distance Learning does offer French and Modern Standard Chinese from Grade 6 onward. Here's the link: http://www.brisbanesde.eq.edu.au/pri...index.htm#LOTE
I think that's your lot and I also think you are being really awkward
Damn it, guess I have to do my ironing now
