Yep did them from LHR to Shanghai then overnight then on to Melbourne
New planes and was fine.
We flew business class. Food was ok. Nothing great. Service ok as well but wanted to clear everything instantly! inflight entertainment was poor, only two or 3 english channels. Wouldnt fly economy though. Business was tolerable, but seats small and reclined as lie flat not actually flatbeds.
Good experience and good at the price.

If you dont expect seat-back TV , are fluid on take off and arrival times, and dont mind the ash-tray in the seat or a single projector providing cabin entertainment in a language that maynot be english - they would be fine.
Your family will hate you - that 1000 pounds will seem inconsequential after the 7th hour with 12 more to go. Fly Singapore Airlines and everyone arrives fatigued and happy for their new life in australia.
Fly with China and they arrive ready to gouge your eyes out and want to 'go home' immediately(but on a different airline).

Bloody awful. During last year's fun with the snow at Heathrow we were diverted and left to sit on one of their planes for an extra five hours (after a nine hour flight), with no information/communication at all. Turned out most of the crew had done a runner, and left the aircraft without telling us because they wanted to get the last hotel rooms. After the Chinese passengers rioted, we were let off by ground staff to sleep on the marble floor of Brussels airport. No communication, no food, and then they flew our luggage away and lost it - it finally arrived back to Australia six weeks after we returned. Never fly on a mainland Chinese airline. You only have yourself to blame if you do.
