Children flying alone from Oz to Uk
Has anyone been in the position of having to fly there little darlings from Oz to London alone?
AND which airline did you use and how much did it cost? We would be looking at Jan 06 date wise.
We are having to price this at the moment, and it seems it costs more for the flight from Sydney for instance to London than the opposite.
Any experience would be helpful.
Thanks

Re: Children flying alone from Oz to Uk
This was my son's experience:
We used to live in Singapore and then my husband took another expat posting in New York City. After living there for almost a year our 13 year old son wanted to go and visit his old schoolfriends back in Singapore.
My husband still had some Singapore Airlines 'KrisFlyer' frequent miles which were coming up to expiry, so we used them to get a free ticket for our son to fly from Newark, NJ to Singapore via Amsterdam (approx 22 hour journey).
He was an unaccompanied minor and was escorted from the check-in desk to the plane (with one of those large orange and white UM labels around his neck LOL!). As soon as he stepped onto the plane, one of the male cabin crew said that as they had to keep an eye on him all the way to Singapore, then they would be sitting him in *First Class*!!!!
He obviously had an amazing time.....and on the return journey it was 'Raffles' (business class) all the way back to Newark. Jammy little kid...
Naturally I thought he was having me on...until I opened his case and found the in-flight amenity kit (Bulgari) and the pyjamas they give out in First.
Brilliant stuff.
If you dress your children nicely and they have excellent manners, they too may get lucky if you choose to fly them with SIA! (I have never flown first class in my life.....)
Good Luck!

I've considered this for my daughter, but would probably only want to use either BA or Qantus.
Here's a page on the Qantus rules:
http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying...eds/childAlone
On most flights, children under 6 must be accompanied by a person 15 years or over who is an immediate family member or who has written permission from the child's parent or guardian
6 to 11 years (inclusive) Simply complete the Qantas 'Unaccompanied Minor' forms.
The ages at which a child is classified as an Unaccompanied Minor can vary between airlines
The age range is also different for Domestic Flights, even on Qantus.

I think most airlines have ceased to allow children to travel unoccupied as the airline staff can no longer be responsible for them. Some airlines allow you to us a "buddy" system where you pay some-one already travelling to mind your child - I know I wouldn't leave any of my kids in the care of a stranger :scared: Our neighbours child travels regularly on her own from Ireland to the US to visit her mother and on a recent trip was left alone in JFK as the "buddy" didn't realise she was to get the connecting flight to Houston. Luckily the child, 11 years old, had the sense to know where she was going as she's done it a few times before. Even the thought of it puts the horrors up me. I suppose alot depends on the age and maturity of the child.
Hope it works out for you though.

Another link for you -
http://www.britishairways.com/travel...o/public/en_gb
BA will carry them from 5 on a single sector, 6 on multi sector.
