Default Children and citizenship

Children under 18 automatically get citizenship if their parent does, yes?

Does that child have to live in Australia for the qualifying period too? In other words, if one or other parent does what is need to get citizenship, does the child automatically receive it too, regardless of where they live?

Thanks

No, this is not right.

Firstly, the cut-off age is 16, not 18. Children aged 16 and above apply for citizenship on the same basis as adults.

For children under 16, there is no 2 (or 4) year residence period but child normally does need to be a permanent resident of Australia at least one parent must be an Australian citizen or applying to become and Australian citizen.

And child does not automatically receive citizenship - an application must be made. Either by including the child on parent's application (free) or making a separate application later, while child is still under 16.
