Default Children already over 18?

Hi All,

Just another question. Our eldest turned 18 today (28/7/05) and we haven't started the paperwork yet.

Does anyone forsee any problems?

Hi

Unless he/she is in full time education you have a problem!
Can only be included if in full time education, if you'd got papers in day before birthday then no problem as once they have to start processing application he/she will be classed as none dependant!

Sorry to say you may have problems.
Our daughter was 17 when our paperwork was submitted, however we could not include her as she had left school and started working, and is therefore non-dependent.
Even if she was still in full time education our agent said we would still have had to prove she was dependent and living at home full time.
This has caused us big probs, when we go over our daughter is going to come with us on a normal 3 month tourist visa, so she is with us for the initial settling in period. After returning to stay with my sister for a while we are going to get her a working holiday visa for 12 months and then take things from there.
Hope you can sort things out

A child under 18 who is single (and not engaged or in a de-facto relationship) is always 'dependent' even if working, as far as I know.

However dependency is assessed at the date of visa *decision* - not date of application as someone else has pointed out. So if child turns 18 during processing, then things like working or studying full time become very relevant.

I can feel for everyone here....so much.

We have everything in meds / AOS / PCC extra info...etc....and are just sitting and waiting. DIMIA have even rung my work couple of weeks ago to check details.

Thing is our oldest daughter will be 18 on the 14th of August.....she is at college doing hairdressing...even so been told visa must come through before then. We feel constantly stressed.......!!!

Hopefully our CO realises this and may try and be kind....we can only wait and see. Could not leave her behind.
