Childcare costs Melbourne?

Childcare costs Melbourne?
Hi guys
Anyone know costs of creches, playschools etc for kids in Melbourne.
It is for a 1 year old (at least she will be when we get there).
Are there lots of choices out there?
I have heard 40 AUS a day in state creches with government subsidy and 80-100 AUs without it.
Anyone how to qualify for this subsidy?

Re: Childcare costs Melbourne?
Are you intending on working? Not sure how childcare works otherwise at that age. If you will be working, family assistance will ask for your combined household income and tell you what percentage of the day care you need to pay. Our local day care centres charge $57 before assistance. If you go onto the family assistance website you can work it out.
My children are 4 & 5 - so I only know about 3 and 4 year old kinder otherwise.

We currently pay $60 per day for our 4 year old in private daycare.

Probably not to worry so much about cost- more about availability!
I have had my daughter's details registered with several childcare facilities sine she was a foetus. Now she is 9 months old, I have finally got her into a place which my company sponsors.
Demand for under 2s seems very high. I think the employee: child ratio has just changed to 1:3 so putting more of a squeeze on places.
Costs range from about $45 to $80, and you should get a childcare rebate (not means tested) and if you are on a low income, perhaps family assistance. Most places give preferential places to workers, students, single parents.
Council run places depend on your chosen suburb. Private ones abound but cost more. ABC centres seem plentiful but I have heard mixed reviews about them. If you know where you want to live, perhaps you can look up the local council website and get registered!
This is all very fresh as my daughter is being orientated currently and I return to work in a week!
Good luck.
