Child immunisations
 

Hi

I have been told that we need our childrens immunisations records when we enrol them in school. Can anyone tell me if their children needed their Hep B injections. They don't automatically give them it here so am panicking now as won't have time to get the course completed before we leave.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah apparently they ask for a full report of all jabs taken and you get a form from centrelink or equivalent dependant on which state you are going. You then update the form with all the jags, I read this , so I asked my health visitor to contact the immunisation department to get a record for both my children and it came within 3 days. As for the hep b, my kids have not had it either , but i was going to get it for them anyway, but according to my health visitor she said that our injections are equivalent to theirs and accepted, i think hep b is an added bonus , sorry i could not help further . sorry debs hope this helps a little

Thanks for that. I have actually got their Personal child Health Record books and that has all their immunisations listed. Do you think this will be OK or will I have to get a print off from the GP?

I would get a print out, its on nhs headed paper with signature and stamp.

Hi Debs

I was advised to get a print-out from my doctor (apparently I need to take this with me for our meds as well). No problem, printed and collected same day, no charge.

Hi,

I came from UK two years ago with two kids aged 5 and 6 and neither had any immunisations. We enrolled them in school easily - you just need to provide what immunisations they have had or fill out a conscientious objector form - either way, Medicare just provides a statement for you to give the school outlining the immunisation history. The school just has to cover themselves by saying that if a child in the school is confirmed with, say, measles, and your child hasn't been immunised, then they are within their rights to exclude your child until the incubation period has passed.

Hi Debs, they understand here that kids in uk don't get hep b vaccination, you can play catch up and have it here (only needed if your children were born after 2000). Bring your littlen's child health record and ask your practice nurse for a print out summary of all their imms. We weren't asked anything about the kids vaccinations, by centrelink or the school. Best be on the safe side and have everything with you tho.

Thanks for that. Panic over now. My boys were born in 1995 and 1998 so looks like we got away with that one. Just waiting for the visa but due to start my new job on 24th July. Things are getting tight so have my lists on the go to remind me, another thing on the to-do one.

Mine were born in 1995,97,99 so we escaped it all too! I'm a practice nurse here, presently doing the child immunisation course and we have so many kids playing catch up with their imms, both aussie and from uk. If you don't want to have your child immunised, you don't have to. You sign a conscienous objection form and hand that in to centrelink, if they ask. They haven't asked for any imm certs for my boys.
