Hi everyone,

can any one advise, if a couple is on student visa and give a birth to a child, so does the child gets Australian citizenship or not.

I'm fairly certain the answer is no. MY colleague is on a 457 visa and recently had a wee one. She's not considered a citizen.

AFAIK one parent has to be a PR or citizen and child born in Oz to be Australian (our son, born here (& we are PRs), is the only citizen at the moment in the family)

For Australian citizenship at least one parent must be an Australian PR or Citizen (unless the child would be otherwise stateless)

Also ok if one parent is an "eligible" New Zealand citizen.
