Smile Child Booster Seats and car hire companies

Hi

We are coming over for our reccie in a couple of weeks and are currently looking into car hire whilst in Perth (any recommendations welcome please as we have looked at loads but still none the wiser )

What are the requirements as far as the law goes? Our girls are 6 and 7 and tall for their age. The 7 year old doesn't have one at home but the 6 year old does.

Thanks

I have been reading up on this because we are moving over with our almost 6 year old in a couple of weeks. From what I have found, children age 4 to 7 years must be in a booster seat but only if up to 26kg in weight. I guess that means if they are over that weight then they suggest that nothing is used. It also needs to be Australian standard approved otherwise it is considered illegal (bit of a pain since my daughter loves her booster here which has the back and can recline slightly).

We have used Thrifty car rental in the past as we were staying with family near one of the depots. We got a good deal when we booked with them as they had offers on at the time. Northside car rentals are also pretty good value (they are not a big chain like Thrifty). Can't remember if you can book online with them though but they are easy enough to deal with through emails.

My son's younger, so not sure about seats for older kids, but in Perth try Burswood car rentals. Unlike the "major" companies they actually pre-install the seat for you, so you're not faffing about with tether straps after a long flight.

Most hire car companies get the seat for you at an extra cost....My son is still in a booster seat and he is 8 (im very safety conscious!!) They have to be below 25kg for the booster though. The booster seats are cheap here anyway if you really want one and the car rental can't get you one.

Great thanks - My 7 year old is very tall and with a booster seat it makes it unsafe as the seatbelt actually sits lower than the shoulder but my six year old only just needs one so I will buy one if required.

Hi,
We were in Perth in December and looking for car hire with car seats, we found some good priced cars but the seats sent the cost through the roof. The best we got was from Carhire 3000, we were able to pick the car up from the airport terminal with no problems and the seats were capped at $60 which was for 3 weeks hire.
Hope this helps...
Danielle
