Child Benefit Question
Hi there folks, I'm new to this forum although my wife and I have been in Brisbane now for almost 8 months. We are talking about starting a family now, or at some point (not sure when, if ever we'll go back to UK) and I wanted to ask you guys about how the benefits work....or don't.
We are both here on 457 temporary long stay business visas by the way.
if we were to start a family here in Oz, does anyone know if we are eligible for any of the UK child benefits?
As we are only on 457's I guess we are not eligible for anything from the Australian government?
I know that getting permanent residency or Citizenship would help but we are planning to go to canada in 2-3 years time...after here, and live there for some years as well......it's like an extended working holiday for both of us!
Thats it really, any comments at all from you guys would be helpful.
Cheers
Nick

You'll only be entitled to UK Child Benefit (or any other UK benefit) while you are a resident in the UK. Even though you're only on temp visas you still miss out (we came on temp visas too!).
Sorry its not good news!
