Default child benefit

Do we tell the child benefit office before or after leaving - does it make any difference?

I told them 6 weeks before we flew.

I know some people have still been paid even though they informed them in plenty of time and then had to pay them back. SO I'd say as much notice as you can would be better.

Can we still claim family allowance out there or are we still entitled to it here?

Hi

I'm glad someone asked this - I was going to phone them tomorrow and ask, I best get onto it as we're hoping to leave in October.

Does anyone know about the Child Trust Funds. I asked at my bank today and they didn't know!

Thanks

Sarah

You can't claim UK Child Benefit in Australia, its for residents of the UK.

If you are temporarily leaving the UK ie on a 457 visa (as we are) you can get child benefit paid for an extra 8 weeks. If you state your intention is to be abroad for a year, then you are entitled to this extra 8 weeks.

As to what we will actually be doing in a year's time...who knows?

Tax credits however I'm still trying to sort out. They just sent a letter thanking me for letting them know of my change of circumstance...to my old address!
