Reliable for 2 grand, you'll be lucky !

Look out for an old Volvo, they are usually the best older cars. You will get some stick for being a 'bloody Volvo driver' though.

Being in Melbourne I obviously wouldn't know where to get one up there. However I do know who to ask. If you have any Aussie friends that have a long standing dealing with their regular Mechanic. Ask them to ask the Mechanic if they have any for sale. I would Imagine they will come up with a regularly serviced Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore... as they will be able to get 50 pct more than a dealer will give them as a trade in for a 12 YO good conditioned regularly serviced vehicle... so many in that range. It is a question of trust though... You need someone that has that good relationship with a mechanic... and hopefully make the mechanic take the responsbility for keeping the good relationship with his/her client.

Best of luck with this... you should be able to get a decent albeit larger vehicle at this point in time.

One major thing you should ask for PB.... Make sure it has a Road Worth Certificate. Do not buy or even consider one without as it could be tricky and costly to register in your name otherwise.
