changing name in passport

Hi all, I will be getting married when I finally get to Australia and just wondered how I go about changing my name in my British passport. Could someone advise me how I do this when I wont be in England or if I can still travel on my old one with my maiden name till my passport expires! Sorry if my questions seem dumb but after all I am blonde so give me some allowances please...thanks Debs xx

Hi debs,

Shouldn't be a problem. You will need to contact the British High Commission in
Canberra. The're web site is pretty clear at http://www.uk.emb.gov.au/. In my
experience they're usually pretty quick in replacing you old passports (~4weeks) -
you just need to make sure that you all the correct documents (and money of course!)
when you send off the renewal/replacement application form.

I'm not sure about travelling on your old one - you'll have to speak with one of
their consultants (be warned it will cost you some).
