Default Changing my TV to work in Oz

So the TV makes the thousands of mile voyage from the UK, the picture works fine but no sound!

I knew that this was a possibililty due to the differing types of broadcast standard between the UK and Oz but I was hoping to still be able to get the TV to work here.

Does anyone know if I can switch my TV from UK PAL-I to Oz PAL B/G so that we can find out what the women are talking about on Desperate Housewives!

Its a Hitachi TV C28W511TN

I've checked the user manual at http://www.hitachiserviceeu.com/supp...userguides.htm
but there's no mention of changing PAL type - the instructions are all UK focused though so I think that it's probably a UK only TV.

Looks like I'll have to buy an Aussie VCR to connect through...

Any help would be gratefully received.

Cheers

You can go to a TV specialist, they are able to alter them.

We had our Australian TV done to work in the UK, and then done again here to work back in OZ I think it was £35 in UK and $80 here.

Thanks mate, I'll give it a try and let you know whether they can fix it.

Cheers

We have it but we're about 7 weeks behind the UK. We arrived in Feb and had to bite our nails until Australia caught up. No plot spoilers please...

We hunted high and low for a VCR with SCART output, but apparently SCART is very much a European thing, so ended up buying a $99 set-top digital box that had SCART?! (Bought from The Good Guys)

All works OK now.

I bought a Philips TV from The Good Guys, it has two scart sockets at the back !! I then had to buy a scart converter from Dick Smith so we could use the normal cables from the DVD & Videos

The reason you get picture and no sound is because the PAL video signal is the same but in PAL-I (UK) the sound carrier is 6Mhz above the picture carrier but for PAL-B/G (Oz) it's 5.5Mhz above, hence no sound !

But as ABCDiamond says, a TV specialist can replace the tuner to PAL-B/G for you. $80 sounds reasonable to me. Nowadays, most newer TV's can pick up all PAL signals.

Mine worked straight out of the container, it was a gamble but it paid off.
