Default changing Job but on Sponsered 457 ?

Hi,

Sorry - Moved this to Immigration Thread

I've been in Oz for 16 months on a 4 year 457 sponsered by an Australian company owned by my previous UK employer. (So it was a pretty easy exercise to get in)

Love the Aussie life style but I've had enough of my Job and been looking for a job with one of there competitors. I'm talking to them now.

I'm asking them to take over sponsership of my 457 which I belive will have no cost associated to it and as It's the same job spec (APAC IT Manager) so will not need to be rewritten. This might be a big assumtion on my part as I confess I have not researched this and have been finding it pretty hard to get good specific info on this.

Also to make things more unclear I would be employed as an IT Specialist with a Consultancy group (not my Employer, quite common in IT Circles) which is really be an unmbrella company and in reality I would be self employed which would mean I was getting the sponsership from my Client (Still Following) and would not be thier PAYG Employee.

So my questions are:

How easy is it to change Jobs on a 457.

Can you be self employed on a 457 with a sponser and a 12 month contract.

How will Immigration know If now one tells them my current sponser is no more, is this risky ? I'll still be paying taxes

Is there a good company I can ask for advice or anyone done something similar ?

I also need advice on the Tax situation ?

Hope this makes sense

Cheers

Tim
