CGT on Shares
Hi,
I arrived in Australia at the end of September, with my wife, on a 4 year employer sponsored temporary visa. I've a UK employee share scheme which is due to mature on the 1st March 2005, this will enable me to buy shares in my previous UK employer at a predetermined option price. The value of the shares is likely to be around 25K, a 10K increase on the option price
I've no intention of holding onto the shares and just want to minimise any taxation. Can anybody offer advice as to the best strategy?
Also, does the fact I'm now an Autralian tax resident, on a temporary residency visa, having been tax resident in the UK for just under half of this tax year have any relevance?
Thanks.
