Default Centrelink Rebate

Hi Guys,

Just got my stuff from work to enable me to do my tax return, I have rung HRBlock to get some advice and will use them to do my first return here in Oz as they seem really helpful and you can also claim back their fee next time round.

My question is regarding payments made from Centrelink. I arrived in Oz during October 2005. I started work in early December 2005. We made a claim from Centrelink giving an estimated salary which included earnings in the UK for July, August and Sepetember 2005. I know the tax return gets supplied to Centrelink, this only includes my earnings since arrival in Oz. There is a discrepancy there as Centrelink have taken UK earning into account, ATO have not.

Do Centrelink then re-calculate the predicted earnings or, do they still take the UK earnings into account? I hope this is clear, someone must have been through this before.........thanks for any experience shared.

If you are parting with cash to do your return, then your accountant should know the answer! If not, I wouldn't use him/her.

Hi,
Just wondered if you got an answer for this, as I'm in the same boat.

Hi,

Just thought I would bump this one back up as we are also in a similar situation and would be interested for any information from anyone who has was in this situation last year.

Thanks

Julia

IIRC from our application last year the ATO and Centrelink apply different criteria, so it's not a discrepancy.
