Opportunity? YES - Worthwhile? probably NO - all the heat would fly straight through the gaps around the doors and windows!!

I f we could get CH I would have had it in by now.
My hubby gas engineer. and put it in all the time in UK.
I told him i want it here, no way.
I have reverse cycle Air con, its lovely and warm, its more or less the same, you just cant dry the washing on it
Now they are doing it in Melbourne, cause my hubby was sponsored in M. to put it in there, by the government.
But too cold there for us.

But i dont really see the point in having those big ugly radiators in the house, and for about 4 months of the year, not worth it.
Anyway off to work now.
Have a nice day, its lovely here in Bunbury.

Re: central heating western oz
We have Ducted Gas heating in our house, No radiors, it comes through vents in the ceiling just like the airconditioning. It's great, the only downside is that you can't set a timer for it to come on in the morning so we the first one up switches it on but it heats the whole house up really quickly. It's also cheap to run apparently (well compared to reverse cycle). Don't actually know though, haven't had a bill in yet this winter.

In Western Australia (where I come from) gas is the most popular choice for hot water systems. Many people (myself included) use an instant gas system, which heats the water at source; no boiler or gas bottle, just instant, limitless hot water whenever you need it.
Central heating systems are found in two main forms: reverse cycle air-conditioning (which can be used to cool or heat the house, via ducts in the ceiling) and ducted gas heating (exactly what it says on the tin.)
Geothermal heat pumps are also availble, but very expensive and far less common.
Alternative hot water systems are readily available in the form of solar- and gas-based models. Some solar systems have a gas or electric option for cloudy days and emergencies. The state government will usually subsidise your purchase of a solar system; the amount varies from state to state.
I do enjoy the UK central heating system, but this business of sticking radiators all over the place is a bit annoying; I'd rather have ducted reverse cycle air-con, which saves doesn't intrdude on living space and provides both cooling and heating at the touch of a button.

Haven't you all heard of central heating systems with underfloor heating which negate the need for these 'ugly radiators'???? Sounds like a CH engineer could make a fortune in Oz!
