Catholic School Fees in Sydney on 482 visa

Hi all, Does anybody have experience with Catholic school fees on a 482 visa in Sydney? We are hopefully coming over next year, my 2 boys who are in school with be 9 & 12yrs old, I just want to know if Catholic schools will be a cheaper alternative than paying for public schools? This could make or break it for us, if the fees are too high. Thanks for any help

Probably cheaper. Only way to find out what the fees are for the school you’d like them to attend is to ring them up and ask them but ball Park seems to be around the $3k mark for first child and $2k for second child assuming they enrol you as a local student and not an international student (they used to). Of course some Catholic schools charge more - eg the Marist High Schools and you will have kids in different schools at 9 and 12 - if not now then soon.

Hi, it’s not just catholic schools that are not public schools so try the other independent schools for costs, when we lived in Perth WA a lot of my friends children went to schools like “Carey College”
Wesley College and St. Hilda’s but our two wanted to stay “local “ with their friends from Primary School so they went to an excellent public high school and did really well they loved it. Hopefully not just concentrating on catholic schools will give you more options. Good luck

Really depends on the catholic school. In NSW the temporary resident's program for primary school is about $6k a year (no idea if high school is the same). for 482 visa holders. Our local catholic primary fees are half that. Some parents I've spoken with over the last 4 years have noted a drop in the development of their kids in primary school compared with their experience in the UK. I guess it's different strokes for different folks though.

From memory, we pay somewhere between 3-4K for my nearly 8 year old to go to the local catholic primary school. I have no idea if your visa makes a difference on fees. Also I have no idea if the second who starts next year gets a discount. Never factored that in, only factored in we won't be paying 20k a year for child care, so that's a bonus. We are not catholic either, but where I live its all private schools for secondary and the few public schools are terrible, so that pathway gives us options if we opt for a catholic private school. However being non catholic and getting into a catholic school is not easy. A brown paper bag full of carefully laundered cash helps.
