Default Cat food (Perth)

Have just had a major rethink and have decided I cannot bear to be parted from my furry feline friends. I have done a bit of research and am getting info packs from DEFRA and Par Air. I have also looked at quarrantine costs and was pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, what I would like to know, if anyone out there can help, is if Iams cat food is freely avaibable in supermarkets or pet shops in Perth. Or if not is there another type of dry food that is easy to get, so I can think about swapping them over now. My cats are funny about eating when I am away so if I can give them food they are used too it should help a bit.

Any help would be appreciated.

From memory in NSW yes I remember seeing IAMs at the local pet warehouse stores & vets. My mogs was on Whiskers over (bought at Coles/Woolies) there but since her return to UK has developed bladder problems and is on perscription wet food from vets

When we went into a pet store next to Subiaco market (in a suburb of Perth) to buy our kitty a black leather studded collar (long story, piss-take of gay-boy cat - he looks funny with it on!) I saw they had Iams cat food there, but I couldnt tell you which of the hundred different of types of Iams it was. However if a small shop in a small suburb stocks it, I'm sure you can get hold of your specific requirement.

Alternatively, contact the Perth quarantine holding centre and ask them by email if they can get hold of it for you?

Hi Shirley

I'm pretty sure that you can get Iams here. There are lots of pet shops and plenty of them stock specialist foods. You might need to look around to get it in a supermarket though.

If you want your cats to have Iams, (or any other particular food), in the quarantine then if you email direct to Byford in advance they will organise it all. Of course it works out more expensive than if they just feed the cats Whiskas because in essence you are paying twice for the food, (as food is already included in the standard daily quarantine rate, but if you want them to order food in you have to pay for it on top), but it is worth it to stop you worrying about them eating.

We have 2 Persians who have fussy stomachs and Byford were great in that they ordered in their special dry food ready for the cats' arrival and then we just paid their wholesale supplier directly after we arrived.

If you need any more info on importing your cats then just PM me. We used Airpets at Heathrow by the way - they were fine.

Thanks for asking, all is going well so far the locals seem to accepted us so we should do well, just need to convince some of the wholesalers to be a bit more competative, getting there though. I so miss the offers we used to get in the UK on pet food, its basically unheard of here to get anything for nothing. The pedigree rep looked at me as if I had gone insane when I asked what deals he could do! At least I managed with the pigs ears!

Hi Jen

We aren't actually planning to move until July/Aug time, but my cats are currently on the light Iams (bit porky both of them!!) They may be ok by then and back on the normal Iams (chicken/beef/fish).

I will pm you nearer the time so I can pop in when I get there.

Thanks to all for the info.

Don't spose you could get some Felix in!! We've been here (Perth) since Aug & tried our cats on every canned brand going, they will just about eat Whiskas but starting to turn their nose up at that now, don't want to give them dry food only. Mum tried to send us a couple sachets of felix as a xmas treat but it got stopped by quarantine. Fussy little b*ggars!

Dont think we can get it over here, haven't seen it in my catalogues. Have you tried the singles, I know they are quite pricey but cats do seem to prefer them, Iams do a single as well, or as a last resort fresh roo or mutton.
Am trying to get pedigree over here to do me a deal on singles, will have to see what they can do, I have to say that the pet trade over here is about 10 years behind the UK.
