Where are you wanting to rent?, how many bedrooms?, are you shipping anything, or nothing?, do you want a new car or not - large or small? What type of place do you want to rent at first? Is it a holiday rental with pool, caravan, tent or something else?
As you can see, it really depends on what YOU want.
We did it all in SA for $40k, that's beach side rental for two weeks, 1997 second hand Falcoln, rent and bond on a 3 bed new build for 6 months, living expenses for us and two kids for 5 months (that's school fees, electricians licence costs, driving licence for 10 years, rego and insurance for a year, fully comp car insurance for a year, furniture for a 3 bed house, lots more besides) BUT that's us, not you and it really does depends on what you expect, and largely on what your budget is - I find that dictates quite a lot - the more you have the more you'll spend

Our first car cost us $9k. Hubby's ute, once he'd found a job, cost us $5k. The bargains are out there if you need to find them. It's the same as everything, you can spend as much as you bring, if you only bring a small amount, that's what you'll get by with, bring squillions, I imagine you'd spend them just as quick

Hello there. I arrived 3 weeks ago. I have bought a brand new toyota yaris for $20K. Rental really depends on where you are. We are renting a 3 bedroom semi in Northern Sydney for $750pw. Good luck!

Saying that, 750$ a week rent is still about 1,200 p.m more than our mortgage payment. Certainly seems like scary rent there in Sydney.
