Cars
Right....me and my other half (migrantoz for those who don't know) have been having this 'discussion' about what car to buy when we get to Oz. (this is just one of MANY 'discussions' )
We reckon we're gonna need 2 cars as when he's at work I'm prob gonna need my own car to ferry the kids to school and get me to work too.
He reckons he may get a job which gives him a company van?? (he's a sparky) and that we should just get an old banger when we arrive. Then he reckons when we've had time to have a really good browse in all the garages we can then upgrade the banger to a decent car, and spend $25 - $30k.
I feel we should get a fairly decent car in the beginning (ie in the first couple of weeks) as we'll have enough to worry about without worrying whether this $5k max banger is gonna pop its clogs any minute! Then at a later date....IF we need another car (ie if he dont get a job with a van)we should get a cheap runaround then. Knowing my bloke...if we get a banger at first and he gets a nice shiny van.....guess who will be stuck with the banger and not get a decent roadworthy set of wheels??
....Maybe I should just beat him with a big stick and tell him who's boss :lecture:
Any experiences of arriving in oz and car situations in the beginning would be most appreciated!! Feel free to leap down my throat and tell me I'm totally wrong too....my shoulders are broad..

The three previous times we were in Perth, we only spent 2k each time on a car. They were a Mitsubishi Magna, a Ford Falcon, a Holden Kingswood. They all were OK (Kingswood was juicy so we swapped for a Cortina). All lasted fine the 6-8 months that we had them. I will only be spending 2k this time around, am not taking much cash so no choice.

Thanks Cherry! I'll give 'em a look. We're gonna need a biggish car too as there's 5 of us and my eldest is adult size
