Question Carrying Gold & jewelry

Hi dar friends,
I know when we arrive to OZ we must inform them more than 10,000 AUD but what about gold and jewelry ?
How much we can bring?
Is it vital to inform them?
Thank you!

Well I didn't. I had my jewellery box (about 10" x 8" x 6") with all my stuff in it in my carry on bag and was wearing the rest. No one asked and it wasn't mentioned but must have shown up on the xray.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm moving out today and carrying any jewellery that's worth anything with me in my hand luggage - I don't know what else you can do, I know I wouldn't want to put all that in the shipping. I couldn't see anything on the customs website to say you can't carry your jewellery with you.

When I went from Toronto to UK (we've been living in the States for the last 18 months) they did test me for explosives because I had such a large amount of metal in my bag though

Jewellery isn't a problem but gold bullion or pockets full of gold coins may invite attention

Keep it close ie don't check it in the main hold.

We wore ours and kept the gold bars in our carryone luggage.
