CARRUM DOWNS?

Re: CARRUM DOWNS?
Compared to surrounding areas like Mount Eliza it is seemed to be not a really nice area. There's older, cheaper housing and this usually brings a lot of rental property. It possibly has good and bad areas, although compared to Oldham...

We have had no problems with the area so far (been in the 'new' part for 3 mths) But would only consider buying in the new area. (just because I like the houses better over this side - newer & more modern!)

I think you do need to be careful in Carrum Downs. I don't know the new part, but had friends buy a very nice house in the older part (houses looked like mid 80s builds) and they couldn't wait to get out. They lived on hoon corner and were kept awake every Fri & Sat night - also trouble with litter and trolleys etc. Some kids even turned their electricity off one night. It actually doesn't look that bad where they were - but obviously there are a lot of bored youths there with little direction.
However, we did view a house in a lovely, neat cul-de-sac in Carrum Downs - so I still think you can get nice streets. I don't think the shopping area is great there, but Frankston has more facilities and better shopping.
I don't know anything about schools in the area.

Can I suggest 10 mins away in Seaford? Right by the beach

Another thing I should add - I don't think you would have too many potential clients interested in alternative therapies etc in that area. But that's my impression and I could, of course, be wrong.
Seaford is definitely up and coming and in a great location. Again, probably still streets to avoid (as in many suburbs).
However, if you are thinking about your self-employment - the hills or eastern inner city would be best location. Not sure about Mornington area - there are plenty who live thereabouts who would have a better idea of the potential of your business.

For the OP. Carrum has a bit of rep for being a bit mowey (lower socio economic and boganish) but there may be bits that are not.

It's also where the Country Fire Authority has its training ground.

Re: CARRUM DOWNS?
To be honest, I fail to see why people are so obsessed by new builds. Is it a British thing?

Agree with Badge on the people and infrastructure. You have to look beyound the physical appearance of property (unless your specifically after heritage). The value is in the land/location. You can rebuild what ever you want later, and worth remembering so can your neighbours.
Its not just the British, Badge, Auckland is shocking.

Yes I do but its more the area might fit within the OP budget and a bonus of being near the sea.
