Carpenter Salary
 

Hi all, just wondered if anyone could give a "rough" idea how much a carpenter would earn in WA? Hard to try and work out a budget for rental etc if you dont really know what to base an income on!

How long is a working day, here OH usually starts about 7.30am and finishes around 4 ish. If works sat its usually til about 1pm on a full days money.

deppends what ur hubb is gonna do i.e fixin,roofin and so on very specialised over here my mate hangs doors shelving and skirts ( which r comin popular ) he gets good price work and gets 50 bucks and hour on ABN doin maintenance,
i think anythin above 30 bucks to 50 is average :thumbsup:

Thanks for that. His runs his own building company here and carries out all the carpentry aspects for any new builds, loft conversions, extensions etc. So roofing mainly, stud walls etc along with 1st and 2nd fix carpentry.

His got his skills assessment here on Friday!!

i worked for a company like that in the uk, had a shock when i came out here ,all the timber is diff all the fixings are diff and the way u do it is diff , i work twice as hard and for longer hours when i built dongers (mobile acc) i started at 6am and finished 430 pm and nearly an hour drive there and back ,
and do i think it was worth it OH YES :thumbsup: i love it here

His not shy of hard work so hours wont bother him. Is it the norm to do a 6 day week too?

Notice your in secret harbour, thats where we are hoping to go if all goes to plan, early stages at the mo, but perhaps can touch base re work if and when it happens !

Hi mate

Will be looking for work when we arrive in January. I have have been fitting kitchens on new build for the last 8 years and would prefere to do this there, rather than go back to 2nd fixing. Do you know anyone doing this? If so, are they keeping busy in the recession?

Wages have come down heaps since the building downturn.

When you advertise for staff hundreds apply and many offer to work for as little as $22 an hour, some immigrants are offering to work for less, which doesnt help anyone. Weve advertised for staff in qld and victoria but cant imagine WA is any different at the moment.

We have a client who was charging $60 per hour 9 months ago. They are now charging $26 and struggling too pick up work.

The are "local" and been around for 20 years and never seen it this bad so quickly. They are only surviving by doing own development work which of course is not good for short term cashflow.

Hi all can we come and join you. Dom is a carpenter too, hes a little worried about work as we have 4 children to support. We are also looking at secret harbour around July 2010. If we could contact any of you nearer the time regarding work that would be a great help. Thanks.

Good luck with the assessment. Dom did his vetassess in Accrington 23rd july and passed,he was so nervous but the guy was really nice.

Thanks very much, that would be great and hopefully ease our worries. Just waiting for police checks then we can lodge our SS. Will definately be in touch.
