Re: carpenter/joiner/wood machinest
Hiya,
We moved to Melbourne (Eastern suburbs) 8 weeks ago on an STNI visa as hubby is a carpenter (I think he's classed as a joiner here). Victoria and S. Oz are both short of carpenters at the mo (or they were recently).
He e-mailed his cv to companies we found in the online YP and got several replies, one of them offering him a job there and then. He's been fitting windows for years and opted to do the same here. UPVC is v. new here still with only a few specialist companies offering it so he was snapped up by this one.
The basic wage isn't great - $600 take home but when he's out fitting it goes up to $24 per hour which can equate to $800 is take home. He likes the job and the people and has been given alot of trust and respect by them as he's good at what he does and they know it (I'm bragging for him now).
They're planning on putting him in charge of the installation dept over the next couple of years as the expand and want him included in the plans.
Sorry to ramble bu hope that answers your Q.s anyway.
