Default Career Break - Advise please

Our friends have just decided to emmigrate to Oz and it will need to be the wife who is the main applicant as she is a hairdresser (hubby doesn't get enough points). The problem is she took a career break when they had their wee one and she starts school this year. Will she need to go back to hairdressing full time for 2 years before applying for a visa or are there other options open to them where this woudn't be an issue?

They are obviously going to contact a few agents for advice etc but as they say forwarned is forearmed!

When I applied (approx 2 years ago) the rule for my skilled job was that I had to have been in continuous employment for 18months up to and including the application date. For some jobs/visas it can be 2 years.
Don't fret though, it may seem a long time, but it took us a good 9 months or so to compile all our stuff together for the application so there's loads you can be getting on with. Don't just wait the 18 months or 2 years before you start to look at the application as there's so much to send off for/prepare. We did not use an agent so it perhaps took a bit longer to get our heads around the whole thing.

IMO - well worth the whole process.

Good luck

Cheers everyone. They managed to speak to an agent yesterday who said that she should get a hairdressing position for 3 months and then apply - Thye believe this will be enough as they are crying out for hairdressers and realy pushing visa's for hairdressers through and that she should have a good chance of being accepted.
