Car Prices In Australia
Hi all
Yes - how long is a piece of string . . . . . !!
We are looking at buying a car around three/four years old. Are used car prices hectic? We'll be in Geelong, Victoria.
A friend advised that we import our current car into Australia, but I cannot believe that the costs would justify it and that it would work out cheaper than buying a used car. I also wonder about the repairs/maintenance on a foreign car.
Our current car is a Citroen Picasso, four years old, so would like something that a family of four can sit comfortably in.
Any recommendations or comments welcome (I hope!!).

In my opinion the best car would be a Toyota Camry, around $25,000 dollars new, its family sized, very reliable and more economical on fuel then other popular OZ family cars like the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. Why don't you look up the web sites of Geelong or other OZ second hand car dealers to give you an idea of the second hand prices.

Thanks very much for the advice. I will certainly look at all the sites suggested, as well as do a search for dealers in Geelong.
Nice to have that direction. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in "not seeing the wood for the trees".

Most new cars (especially jap) are cheaper in oz ......
Secondhand cars are definitely dearer.....don't ask me why !
Importing or bringing your own.....waste of time , too expensive, problems with getting parts etc.....
My advice is to just buy new......advantages ....well 3yrs warranty for starters.
all the best plum

Although we wanted and MX5 and a Honda CRV, it would've meant we had no deposit for a house! We're happy with them, and I get to call Mr Logan 'Barina Boy' which he just love

Found the website at www.racv.com.au quite good.
You get links to dealers that have accreditation -
so some level of assurance...
