Car Insurance......
Long story....
The last time we were here we bought a car, registered it, bought rego, etc etc...Thought nothing of it, we were told we were all insured ready to go, so we just drove round a$10k car for six months, not knowing if we had written the car off we would have been left carless and cashless just for being careless.....
Now here we go again, i am looking at cars, but this time i am going to protect my investment by insuring the damn thing, just in case the queen decides to go whacky races.....
We are both mid forties, looking at a Toyota, maybe a sedan, mybe a small hatch...........What do we do, any advice much appreciated...
What type of insurance do we really need, also where is the best place to look either online, or a broker, or where.....What would we be looking at in terms of cost for twelve months roughly on a small hatch.....
I ask before i go researching just in case, well someone has some vey good advice...
Cheers all.....

Re: Car Insurance......
I assume you want 'comprehensive' insurance - which can be a few shades of comprehensive depending on who you pick and what you pay.
Most insurance companies offer lower premiums for higher excess. I use RACQ - good reviews and reputation - some of the online companies have poor reviews but then I have also read people on here saying they've had great service.
I recently renewed for a medium hatch (2010 model) and it cost me $415 for the year (35, F, no accidents/issues).
Best of luck - maybe have a quick trawl using a broker (iSelect etc.) and then go direct to the website to avoid the broker fee.

Choosi.com.au. Is a comparison site. May be worthy look x

Re: Car Insurance......
Choosi is a comparison site for life, health, funeral and income protection insurance - not much use in the present case!

Re: Car Insurance......
There are no worthwhile comparison sites for car insurance, because the main players are not on them. Check them individually.
It seems like a huge risk driving around with no insurance, it isn't just the cost of your car that you out at risk, you might have to pay for somebody else's car as well, or property or anything ... CTP only covers damage to other people not property.
I would have thought an average premium would be about $500 or so?

I'm with Suncorp & find them very good. Also if you insure your house & contents you'll get a discount & if you do it online there's even more discount! Goodluck

Re: Car Insurance......
I've been with Bingle for years, had 2 claims, both were dealt with fine.
2 downsides -
- they don't have a driver rating system, so if you are currently rated 1 and then switch to Bingle, you are not rated 1 anymore.
- they don't insure modified cars. So next renewal I will have to move to a company that does which is undoubtably going to cost me more.

We've got most of our stuff with RACQ and so get discounts but for some reason we haven't found anyone to beat NRMA for my husband's ute. First Born just bought a new car, rang AAMI, her insurer, before seeing the car to check prices, got a woman who gave the 'best quote' not bad, just a few bucks more than her old car. Bought the car, rang again to arrange the change, got a guy, she flirted like crazy and got the quote cheaper than the old car.
May be worth your wife sorting the quote
