Car and household goods in same container?
We're looking now at the possibility of shipping our car in the same container as our household belongings as opposed to sending it on a ro-ro. There's a distinct possibility that everything will fit in a 20ft container, though we're prepared for the cost of a 40ft if it's required. Has anyone done this? (and before anyone asks - yes, I know all about the pros and cons of shipping a car)
We're going to get quotes from Doree Bonner, Anglo Pacific and PSS. I'd welcome other suggestions or comments on experiences with them too. |
Re: Car and household goods in same container?
Yes did it myself, packed the container with household goods, then reversed the car in, £1500 for 40ft container.
All got here in perfect condition, dry and still smelling clean, amazing them sealed containers. PM me if you want any other info can even show you the pics... G

Re: Car and household goods in same container?
£1500!?! We've budgeted around £5k not including all the car duty stuff.
La Vida Loca - how did it work with the car side of things - did the removal firm (who did you use?) take care of that side or did you have to engage a local agent at the Aus end separately to take car of that. Also - car cleaning. We're going to get her detail cleaned beside the container so that she just gets driven in spotless. Are AQIS likely to charge again for a clean? |
Re: Car and household goods in same container?
Container only, there are fees ontop of that, I should have said, sorry, and i did all the packing at UK end.
AQIS dont clean, they inspect and they leave it the brokers yard or similar, and they pretty much charge what they and keep going until its clean enough by AQIS. I paid $400 bux and they dont care how they strip your car as they are usually a couple of mongs with a jet wash lance. (they look for dirt under the whole car, any signs your up for it, put your fingers under the wheel arch and rub along.) I did it all on the fly, the total cost was around $8000, everything all up, duty on car etc. Although I saved a few grand it was a bit messy this end with the clearaace, as I was pretty clueless, but got the right direction from customs in Freo, they are good guys down there and very patient. Car and Houshold have to go as two seperate loads even tho in the same container. With no money, every cent in my pocket was a benefit. I did get an agent this end made it so much easier knowing the customs side of things and systems.
