Default car hire melbourne

Hi heading to Melbourne for 10 days and from reading stuff think it would be good to have a car for few days. Can anyone reccommend a car hire firm in the city (happy with cheap and cheerful !)

we always used Budget in South Melbourne, generally they had the best rates and we found that hiring a intermediate to full sized vehicle tends to get you an upgrade. We hired quiet frequently from the same store and once you get to know the guys they give you great deals.

I know a few people who have used rent-a-bomb and they do good deals for the more budget conscious. Their cars are older though whereas Budget tend to have a fairly new fleet. They are dotted all over but I think there is one on Clarendon Street, not too far from the Crown Casino.

I think we had a car from budget for 5 days and it was $250, they upgraded the car to a Holden Statesman and another time we got a Nissan X-trail for about $65 a day.

Hope that helps.

+1 for Rentabomb.

Used the branch just down from the Crown and they were very good.
Can't remember prices of the top of my head, but were substantially cheaper than any other quote we had for a 1 week hire heading down the Great Ocean Road and back.

I think rent-a-bomb would be the cheapest around, even though the car is not a new one. I am planning to book with them for over 3 weeks and get quote around 525 AUD when i touchdown in Melb in the middle of March

Anybody has an experience with rent-a-bomb? Or there is any other alternative
