Capalaba does have quite a few of the boy racer types living in the area. And a fair percentage of young teens. In general its a working class neighbourhood, not terrible like Logan or Inala, but a higher than average percentage of young families, some struggling & some on welfare. There are 2 major shopping malls, 1 including a cinema complex & it seems to have become the commercial centre for the eastern suburbs. Large amount of centralised commercial shopping (ie plumbing, hardware, paint, furniture, office supplies etc stores) as well as the retail stuff in the malls. Facilities & amenities are fairly well catered for, I doubt there would be much that you wouldnt be able to get locally. Quite a range of sporting clubs, especially for the juniors. Weatherwise its nice, much cooler nearer the bay than the rest of Brisbane.

Average house prices are probably in the $270-300K area. You will get cheaper, but thats probably a general guide. Almost all modern housing, dating from the 70s &80s, a mix of brick & tile & some highset/hardiplank homes.

In general, there are alot better areas to live in Brisbane, but then there are alot worse as well :).

We rented in Capalaba for one month when we first arrived. It was very handy as it is well located for shopping centres, banks, racq, medicare, centrelink, public transport etc...... makes life a bit easier when you first arrive what with all the paperwork that needs doing to get set up. We were in a nice part but it is very much a city suburb. We had not been there before and had no idea what it was like, just found the rental over the net - it wasn't a bad choice.
