Default cane toads and dogs

We are now getting lots of cane toads in the back garden at night. Normally our dog just goes off his head barking at them, but last night he picked one up in his mouth, but dropped it pretty quickly.

He spent the next half hour licking his mouth like he had a real bad taste in his mouth. he seems to be fine now mind!

Just how bad are cane toads to dogs and what is the recommended thing to do if a dog decides to take a full-on chomp out of a toad??

very poisonous Trev, can kill a small dog quite easily. If its a serious chomp my best advice would be to stick the hose in the dogs mouth asap & wash as much of the poison out as you can. Then keep a sharp eye out for any sypmtoms of poisoning which are profuse salivation, twitching, vomiting, shallow breathing and collapse of the hind limbs.

Your dog must be a lucky mutt, cane toads kill quite a lot of dogs and cats and ferals. Nice-looking little beasties, aren't they?
