Hi,

I'm on my way to Canberra in a couple of months, and am looking for somewhere to live. I'll be working in Woden, so probably looking for somewhere in that vicinity.

Does anyone have any recommendations for suburbs to live in, or, perhaps more importantly, to avoid?

Woden Weston would be your best bet. Do you have kids? Some of the suburbs dont have a primary school any more so if proximity to primary school is an issue then that would restrict you a bit. My favourite would be Yarralumla (inner South) but you would need fairly deep pockets for that.

I'd probably be avoiding Rivett in the WW area but there really arent any "avoid at all costs" places anywhere. Some parts of Narrabundah - which is inner South anyway - are like that but Narrabundah is becoming gentrified and the price of houses is quite surprising for what they are. WW was the area most affected by the bushfires in 2003 and whilst we dont anticipate any more that does seem to be the vulnerable side of town for fires that come down from the Tidbinbillas.

However, Canberra isnt that big a place and Woden is reasonably central so basically just go with whatever you can find that you are prepared to live in.

I guess you have tried allhomes to see what is available? Try a search for Woden Weston first, then inner South, inner North perhaps
