Canberra should combine SummerNats and Floriade on the same weekend. That'd liven things up

I never understood why more migrants don't come here. It has the highest incomes in the country, the most educated population, Australia's best university, an excellent public school system, a healthy climate, beaches and skiing within 2.5 hours drive, great infrastructure, beautiful countryside nearby, COSTCO, an easy weekend drive to Sydney, a growing population and lots of jobs. My frequent weekend trips to Sydney (for that big city fix) make me realise that I can have the best of both worlds.
The issue of the Australian Citizenship requirement does turn some people off, but this place has to be a paradise for tradies or anyone servicing all those public servants, pollies, diplomats and academics.

I reckon the trip would be more fun midweek when there's likely to be less traffic on it. And even better still - on the motorbike.

We lived in Canberra for a year, it was very safe and clean, a bit dull with not much to do, Have now moved to Mackay ( wanted to be near the sea!). Mackay is tonns better, and Shoal Point where we live is lovely.

This weekend we went: to watch some Rugby. (Well, I didn't go, there are limits and it was union - apparently the Brumbies (who I thought were bakers ) won)
To the University to collect a couple of guys, one from PNG and one from Indonesia who are here in advisory positions on their language (my friend, as well as working for the Gov, is also doing a Linguistic degree. I'm fairly sure she's a spy), so we could then take them ...
To the zoo and aquarium (actually quite good, just in the middle of putting the photos up on flickr) where my friend could learn all the foreign words for the animals and vegetation and the two visitors could make the photos up into a book to take back to their villages.
To Costco.
To help rescue a blue tongue lizard that had had a run-in with something. (Friend also volunteers for Wild Care)
Gawd, I know how to live

You have to leave the hotel to see people LOL
There are usually plenty of people around but if your hotel was in Barton and it was the weekend, then, no you wont see too many, like the City of London is dead at the weekend as well.
it's far from dull, I dont know why people get that impression! Some times of year are better than others but you cant move in the place come Floriade, Canberra Festival, multicultural festival, Summernats, Folk Festival, Skyfire etc etc.

I see the attraction of Canberra - snowfields and seasons. Cold and sunny winters. Rugby. You could live on substantial acreage 30mins from work.
It's also home to alot of people with good contacts and education. If you got in with the right crowd you could do well, I'm guessing.
But Melbourne does it for me ultimately.
