The place is cold, remote, as pretty as Milton Keynes, has as many roundabouts as Milton Keynes and is full of public servants. 1 day would have been enough for me but we spent 2 there.

I think its probably best not to mention Canberra...

Quite simple: no azure blue salt water, no surf crashing gayly on bright scorching sands.

They try but for that try the Sydney Opera House or Melbourne.

Did you go to Cockington Green, that little bit of Britain, and I mean "little".

It's been expanded now to include some European features.

I'm off to Canberra... and proud of it! It has everything i need and is a perfect city for a biker! For 3 reasons...

1 ROUNDABOUTS?! (A BAD THING!!! NARGH!!!)
2 no traffic!
3 a few hours in either direction and you're either at the coast, in the mountains or riding round a lake. If i lived on the coast wouldn't it be boring?! where would you go?

Melbourne? Sydney? phooowwweeee... gimme Canberra any day.

oh yeah and i've got a job and friends there when i land so i didn't have much choice!

vroom vroom

ps, oh yeah just thought of another reason.... no expats coz they never go there! :D (only joking)

Seems to me this forum is desperately in need for some pro-Canberra words.

Totally agree with scutterUK!

My sister lives in Canberra with her family, I've been there several times and would prefer it any time to Sydney or Melbourne. If I wanted those, I could just as well move to Frankfurt, that would be closer, cheaper and easier. The thing I like about Canberra is that it's not as big and overcrowded as Sydney. With only few exeptions I always had beautiful weather there, although I must admit I have had very cold times there. But from what I hear you have those in Mebourne and Adelaide as well.

As for the cultural thing: I'm not really into that myself, so I can't comment on it regarding Canberra, but to those surrounded by lots of theatres, concert halls and museums: Do you really go there all the time? I guess some do and some don't.

I love Sydney as a tourist, but in addition to the fact that I won't be able to afford Sydney and my sister lives in Canberra, for living Canberra suits me better.

Lavinia
