Can you drive in UK on P-Plate licence?

Hi. My 21 year old son has been offered a teaching job in UK for 2 years. He has dual (UK/Australian) citizenship. He currently holds an Australian P-plate licence (converts to full open licence in Nov). Can he drive in UK (he gets there in August) on his provisional licence? Anyone come across this? Thanks

I stand to be corrected but I really doubt that he can

I think you can drive on an Australian license for up to 12 months in UK

A P-plate license holder has still passed a driving test and is not the same as a UK provisional which is a learners permit.

To get a definitive answer he can visit a RACV shop as he will need an International Driving Permit now. There has been a recent change to the requirements in the UK where you now need an International Driving Permit, and the RACV, should be able to answer any queries regarding his eligibility to drive on a P plate.

Correct. He should look to exchange his current licence for a GB licence after he arrives.
