Yes. You must be out of the country when the perm visa is granted but your case officer will warn you when the time is near.

Another way would be to get an Aussie employer to sponsor you. It only costs them about $235 and only 1 form to fill in, search for the onshore 'Employer Nomination Scheme' on the DIMIA website.

Good luck.

So in theory you could go to Oz on a work permit, get a job and if the employer will, apply for employer sponsorship whilst there?

Does the job have to be on the skills list?

Cheers

I tried this method a few years ago - things may have changed in the meantime, but I found it impossible to satisfy the conditions they wanted - even with a very good employer helping my side of the 'argument'

Jeremy (or anyone else who knows),

Dagboy is currently on 457 employee sponsored, applying for spouse visa (I think he will be issued the temp spouse visa? because its just short of 5 years?), does he have to be offshore when its issued or is that only for the permanent one?

Is there a condition somewhere that says he cant leave the country for a certain amount of time once hes got either the temp or the spouse visa? Ive seen people mention not being able to leave but Im not sure what visa they are referring to- very confused about it!

As a rule the requirement to be outside Australia when a visa is granted only applies to what are called offshore visas (such as a general skilled visa).

If the spouse visa application was lodged onshore Dagboy can remain in Australia throughout the visa application process, through to visa grant.

Best regards.
